You’ve probably heard stories about to make money by blogging and social media. Admit it that you thought “Maybe I can do that too!”.
I am in no way an expert on the topic, anyway I will tell you my journey to becoming an blogger and influencer on social media. I loved Instagram right away, my account dates back to 2011 and I liked to share photos of the holidays and my single life 😉
When my daughter Adelaide was born, I began to share on Instagram photos of my family. Instagram was a creative outlet for me while raising Adelaide at home. It became a community where I could connect with other moms. Meanwhile Ginevra born and in 2016 we moved to Tennessee, but here nobody knew me as a blogger and influencer.
Many times I asked myself: “How could I make money by blogging and social media?” Keep reading, I share my 5 tips with you.

How many followers do you need to make money by blogging and social media? 100K fake followers won’t amount to much, this is true story!
Naturally, the more engaged followers you have, the better, but even those with a smaller-engaged following have the potential to start making money. Brands are increasingly seeking quality over quantity – this means they would rather pay for a smaller audience of engaged or niche followers. They no longer just want expensive celebrities to advertise their wares, they’re deliberately looking for ordinary people and micro-influencers.
Tip #1 Make sure you pick a very specific niche (fashion, food, beauty, and fitness are popular niches). Have a think about what it is you’re passionate about or particularly knowledgeable in. You’re going to have to dedicate a lot of time to the subject, so make sure it’s something you’re going to enjoy writing about. Be creative and think outside the box!
Tip #2 Share quality content on the blog and on IG caption. At the end of the day, followers will be attracted to your account if you’re offering them something they’re genuinely interested in. Avoid being too promotional and tell some good stories, and they’re bound to keep coming.
Tip #3 Share high-resolution photos. Make sure you’re using a phone with a high-quality camera as different phones have cameras of varying qualities or consider purchasing a professional camera. Probably brands will ask you for 4:5 ratio photos (vertical photo format, not square). P.S. If you have the economic possibility, take a photography course and a course for editing photos, the best money spent!
Tip #4 List yourself on one of the many influencer marketplaces out there to increase your chances of being discovered. I decided to share with you the influencer platforms I work with. The application is free for influencers and content creators, and you can delete your account any time:
Tip #5 Become an affiliate. An affiliate is more invested in making sales for the partner brand—not just generating awareness—in exchange for a commission. This is typically done with a trackable link or unique promo code to ensure clicks actually translate into sales. You can insert the affiliate link in blog posts, in IG Stories or with Linktree. Consider reaching out to one of the many online merchants that offer affiliate programs that you can participate in, or you can also explore popular marketplaces like:
